Biography
David Steckler is of counsel at Garfunkel, Wild & Travis, P.C., which he joined in 1995. He founded the Compliance and White Collar Defense Practice Group, which focuses on the unique regulatory and business concerns of the health care industry.
Mr. Steckler's practice includes defense, compliance and business advice for hospitals, physicians, managed care companies and other health industry clients. In addition, Mr. Steckler handles specialized compliance programs and issues, such as environmental compliance and regulatory advice, Board education programs and school/university compliance issues.
Prior to joining Garfunkel, Wild & Travis, P.C., Mr. Steckler was a litigation partner at Rivkin, Radler, LLP, an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and a New York Special Assistant Attorney General in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Mr. Steckler received his B.A. from Long Island University in 1966, his J.D. in 1975 from St. John's University School of Law, where he served as associate managing editor of the St. John's Law Review. Mr. Steckler received a Master of Laws (in Taxation) from New York University in 1979.
Mr. Steckler was a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971.
Teaching Mr. Steckler frequently writes and lectures on compliance and defense issues. He is the Program Director of the Compliance Specialist Certificate Graduate Program at Florida Gulf Coast University.
